FROM A SIMPLE SENTENCE TO A COMPLEX SENTENCE WITH A NOUN CLAUSE
- Your drunkenness aggravates your offense. (a simple sentence) -> That you are drunk aggravates your offense. (a complex sentence with a noun clause)
- His absence was very much regretted. -> It was very much regretted that he was absent.
- The consequence of his carelessness was the loss of the game. -> The consequence of his carelessness was that the game was lost.
- The duration of my stay is doubtful. -> How long I shall stay is doubtful.
- The news of the landing of the enemy spread like wild fire. -> The news that the enemy landed spread like wild fire.
- My success does not make me happy. -> That I was successful does not make me happy.
- Your willingness to believe this is incredible. -> That you should be willing to believe this is incredible.
- A prudent person is respected. -> Whoever is prudent is respected.
